All hardware support (has/will likely to continue to in the future) comes from the hardware manufacturer no matter what operating system you choose to run. So if you go to the hardware manufacturer's web site or contact them in some other way and they do not provide drivers or support for a given device in a given OS - then you have a few choices. You can try to make it work through 'round-about' means, you can not use that OS, you can replace the device with something non-legacy, you can try a previous OSes drivers.
3COM probably abandoned this legacy product. You might try downloading and installing the latest driver (finding it on 3COMs support site was a disaster for me - but...):

In the end, however, it looks like 3COM (HP) has voted that adapter 'off the island'. You either find some kludge to make it work or get a better/newer device (easier for you considering it was already external.) I suggest something from a company that mainly makes networking components. I personally like Netgear equipment.

I checked at 3com site no other driver version available, and no version to fit with win7 is available. Subscription auto-renews at the end of the term Learn more. If they have a Vista driver, that should work, but if the adapter goes wibdows to the days of XP and no further forward, you’ll probably need to get something newer.

Assuming you have enabled your wireless connections again, have you tried a system restore to a few days before you dissabled the connection to see if the settings as they should; revert back to before the problem.
